How Does CoolSculpting Work?

Unlike diets and exercise, which cause fat cells to contract as your body burns the content of the fat cells, CoolSculpting permanently removes fat cells.

CoolSculpting uses special applicators and technology to selectively cool and freeze fat cells.  A special, body-part specific applicator is used to create a close suction between the body part that is being treated and the applicator itself.  Once your skin is in close-contact with the applicator, the applicator is cooled to a precise temperature which causes fat cells in the treatment area to freeze.

Because you stop producing fat cells after adolescence, once your fat is frozen and naturally eliminated by your body, the fat is gone forever.

Fat Freezes At a Higher-Temperature Than Surrounding Tissue

CoolSculpting can trace it's origins back to a Harvard study of children in Mexico who developed dimples after sucking on lots of popsicles.

Like a stick of butter in your refrigerator which freezes into a hard solid while the water bottle sitting next to it remains a liquid, fat freezes at a higher temperature than skin, tissue, muscle and other fluids.  

This higher-freezing point makes it possible to selectively target and freeze body fat that lies between your skin and underlying muscle. Using the latest CoolSculpting technology, we are able to freeze your fat while protecting surrounding tissue.

Each treatment freezes approximately 20 to 25% of the body fat in the treatment area.  Once the fat is frozen, your body naturally eliminates the frozen fat cells over a period of three to eight weeks.

What Does CoolSculpting Feel Like?

When the CoolSculpting applicator is applied, you'll feel the treatment area being sucked into the applicator.  Because we have the latest applicators designed to precisely fit different treatment areas, this suction-feeling is noticeable but not uncomfortable.  

When the applicator begins to apply cooling, you'll feel a cooling sensation in the treatment area.  After a short period of time, the cooling begins to act as it's own form of natural anesthetic.
